Remembering the Great War 1914–1918

This online exhibition marks Remembrance Day 2014 and the centenary of the First World War. It includes a range of images that reveal the effects of the war on soldiers and civilians alike, as seen through the eyes of contemporary artists.

The images displayed here are all works of art on paper drawn from the permanent collections of the Western Art Print Room of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. The Museum holds a particularly fine collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century prints and drawings by British artists, many of which are rarely seen.

For conservation reasons, these works cannot be kept on permanent display in the Museum, but they are freely available to anyone wishing to see them. Please contact the Print Room staff for details of what is in the collection, or visit http://www.ashmolean.org/departments/westernart/printroom/ for information on how to arrange a visit.

We hope that after viewing these powerful and varied images, you will want to come and find out more.
