Dirhams for Slaves: Islamic Trade with the Northern Lands in the Viking Age

1 Jun 2015 to 20 Sep 2015

In the Viking Age merchants from the Islamic world exchanged silver coins (dirhams) for slaves and furs.

This exhibition of material from the Royal Swedish Coin Cabinet illustrates the huge range of this trade and hints at its importance for the formative period of European history.
