2016 exhibitions at the Ashmolean
2016 is here and we have lots of exciting exhibitions and events to look forward to.
This summer we will be telling the extraordinary story of Sicily and its underwater archaeology in Storms, War and Shipwrecks, and in the autumn we explore the supernatural in the art of the Islamic world in Power and Protection.
Our first exhibition of the year Andy Warhol: Works from The Hall Collection opens in just a few weeks. Tickets are already on sale.
From 4 February British artist Elizabeth Price, winner of the 2012 Turner Prize, displays her Contemporary Art Society Award winning work, A RESTORATION, a specially commissioned 15 minute two-screen video installation based on the Ashmolean's collections. Entry will be free.
And later on in the year we present a free exhibition of works by Liu Dan (b. 1953), one of Chinas leading artists, at the forefront of the generation of painters who have been working in radically new ways in the traditional medium of ink. On display will be a landscape presented by Liu Dan to the Ashmolean in memory of the great historian of Chinese art, Professor Michael Sullivan (19162013).
